Are you Career Ready yet? Here are Career Mapping and Get Yourself Ready!

 

Are you planning for your precious last year in the university wondering whether you are ready for the corporate world with job application competition? Or let's say, are you career-ready yet? Career Readiness is the attainment and demonstration of competencies that prepare you for a successful transition into the workplace.

Before graduation you figure out which company and which position are you going to apply for, you need to understand where you are – or in other words, firstly, let's frame your career mapping phase. Being aware of your career mapping phase helps you identify how you can build the skills and experiences you need to make confident career choices.

There are 4 phases for your perfect career mapping:

1. Discover

Firstly, it is important to figure our which industry that you want to develop your career path in the future. If you are not sure yet, it is OK, you will find out once you start reflecting on your strengths and weaknesses. Additionally, updating on your goals can help you in framing how you want your career life to be in the future. In tandem with it, based on your personal experience, your research, your professional connections, you are beginning to develop and understanding of your career decision.

Keep in mind these 4 tips while discovering:

    • Know Yourself
    • Curiosity
    • Resourcefulness
    • Be Professional

2. Focus

Once you know what you want to do in the future, let's see how you will make it there. You should try to make connection between your self analysis ans the labour market, and keeping in mind this situational analysis, you can develop a step-by-step plan for yourself.

There are some ways to explore your career development plan:

    • Sign up for workshops and job-related programs offered by your university
    • Continue to build your professional skills and knowledge
    • Networking and building connections in the industry you want to work in 

3. Apply

When you already know which industry you will thrive in, and which skills and knowledge you need to get you there, let's see how you should articulate this to your future employers. At the same time, it is crucial to navigate the job market and actively search for available opportunities. The more approached you are to the job market, the more experienced and career-ready you are. Try to apply for those jobs that you have planned, don't hesitate to attend job interview with full preparation. It might cost you some rejections before you actually get your matched job, but don't give up, as those are the lessons and insights that can train you better in the corporate world.
