10 Signs You May Be Ready for a Career Change

What is it?

Career switch as its name suggests, refers to pursuing a profession or occupation that is out of ones current position. It’s not always deviating form the current industry to another. Sometimes, it may happen in the same industry.


Career switches can happen due to multiple reasons. Some of the more prominent ones are,

  1. Bad work schedule and less personal time.
  2. No chance of advancement or promotion in the same one.
  3. Financial reasons. 
  4. No availability in the same sector or profession.
  5. Increase in stress or bad mental health.
  6. Not feeling appreciated.

How to?

1. Determine if you're happy with your current role.

The very first step if you’re planing to change your career is find if you really want to do it. The best way to do it is look if you’re happy with your current job or position. Find about the job satisfaction, if you’re getting your personal time with family and friends, your day to day responsibilities, is the pay worth the responsibilities and work, how’s the management and the management style and also track if you can develop yourself professionally.


2. Find and Review your core values, interests and your skills. 

Take a look at your portfolio and look for the areas in which you excel or have found success in the past. 


3. Consider careers in different industries.

Find your interests and search about the different positions that you  can pursue.


4. Seek potential Job prospects.

Look for what HR managers in different companies are looking for in their new employee.


5. Try shadowing a few employees from various companies.

Once decided what sector to go for, shadowing employees from different companies gives a detailed information about what is expected from you.


6. Enhance skills.

Different jobs and sectors require different skills. Once you're done shortlisting what careers suit you and what skills it requires, try enhancing them.


7. Find positions in companies

Finally make a portfolio and apply for jobs in different companies.
